We will prepare to meet in our Literature Circles.  Have the students get out their materials for the group meeting.

Read the example of the research paper in the Lit Book.  Look closely at the example of parenthetical documentation and bibliography.

Have the students get out their paraphrased paragraph.  Explain that the only way that it is correct is if they give the source for the information.  Practice a bibliography.  Practice doc.

Tuesday

Continue to work on figurative language.  Have the students work on some warm-up sentences.  They can share if they want to.

Students will be using their computers and a story that they have already written.  Each student will choose one of their notebook stories and they will be revising and editing for final copy.  The rubric will be the writing traits.

Have the students hand in their assignment.  It should be a paragraph and a source in a bibliography and it should have parenthetical documentation.  I just want to see if they have an idea of what this is.  I will hand them back tomorrow.

Give the students about 15 minutes to read in their book.  When they are done explain to them that they will each have a group activity to work on.  Give them their choices and let them choose what it is they want.  Each group can choose a different assignment, but they will all be worth the same amount of points.

The assignment will be due on Monday when they meet in their Lit. Circle.  They will be able to share it with the other groups before hand.

The groups will have today and Wednesday to work on the group assignment in class.

Wednesday

Give them a little time to work on their final drafts.  If they haven’t had a peer editor they may exchange quickly and have someone take a look at their assignment.

Remind them to use their computers.  Check grade level, spelling, grammar, thesaurus, etc.

Complete The Tiger Rising Group assignment.  Get them completed and ready to hand in.  They will share them with the other groups tomorrow.

The students will get their assignments back.  We will review paraphrasing and how to use our documentation.  We will also visit the citation machine again.  The students will add another book for practice.

The students will then get to see the color copies for recording info from a source.  Show them how to use the source pages and how to organize their information.

Hand out the rubric.

Start our research.

Thursday

15 minutes of newspaper reading with a KWL or summary.  Challenge the students to find a new vocabulary word.

Give the last assignment for the Lit Circle.  Let them have a few min to work on the book.  It should be completed before the last group meeting next Monday.  Remember to record pages in the log.

Let the students finish up their final copy of the writing.  It will be handed in on Thursday.  Remember: Graded using the 6 traits.

Researching for the research paper.  Students will be reading for information.  I want them to pick research that supports their thesis statement.
